The University Counselling Service is a confidential service available to undergraduate and post graduate students and to all members of staff.
Counselling offers an opportunity to talk in confidence about problems that concern you.
Some of the issues brought to the Service include anxiety, depression, family concerns, bereavement, difficulty in adjusting to a new way of life, work and study related problems, worries about drugs and alcohol, physical and/or sexual abuse, eating disorders and HIV/AIDS.
HOW WILL IT HELP?By talking through your problems or concerns with a counsellor, you may deepen your understanding of what is happening and develop alternative ways of dealing with the situation. |

You may feel your difficulty is not important enough to see a counsellor about, but if it is worrying you or causing you distress, then it is important. If you are worried then you can arrange an initial appointment to clarify whether counselling might be helpful.
Counselling provides an opportunity to talk over any problem that you may have. If after talking and thinking together it seems that some other form of help may be more appropriate, it can help to identify how to find this.
Both individual and group counselling sessions are available. Your initial appointment will last for 50 minutes and will give you the opportunity to talk about your particular issues and discuss whether further sessions would be helpful.
Enquiries and consultations may be arranged by telephone or email. Workshops for students are also offered throughout the year which have included Exam Preperation, Anxiety/stress Management and Eating Difficulties.
Appointments can be made by telephoning the Counselling Service, by calling in person, by leaving your contact details on the answer machine or via email.
