Team Training and Competitions

Training/Lessons

We are fortunate enough to have close connections with Summerhouse Equestrian Centre, roughly a 30 minute car journey from Cheltenham. Here we have the use of on site instructors, horses and the facilities Summerhouse has to offer all of which are of an excellent standard. We use Summerhouse for all team training sessions, group lessons and home competitions.

The Horses are at an advanced level and many are often competing at national and international competitions. Lessons costs roughly £20 an hour depending on the instructor. Obviously we understand not everyone can afford regular lessons/team training, so schedules are planned to suit all team members as best as possible. However if for example there are members who're keen to have regular weekly lessons/training, this can easily be arranged.

Competitions

The Equestrian Club competes within the BUCS league, competitions consist of a relatively simple dressage test and a show jumping round (no higher than 3ft). Riders are paired with a different horse for each phase and receive marks based on style and technique over fences for the SJ round, dressage is marked in the normal manner.

Four teams of four riders will compete using four horses, meaning that one rider from each team will ride the same horse. Which ever riders with the best mark on their horse will be successful - in a change to the rules last year where teams were able to drop their lowest rider score, this year all four scores count.

Depending on the amount of competing members the club will usually have 3 teams each consisting of 4 riders. These riders will be chosen through tryouts in which everyone has a group lesson in order for us to gage each rider's abilities.

Tryouts will be held during mid September - Watch this space for further details!

There is a chance for both the first team and a individual to reach the regional competition, and the second team can reach Nationals but only as a team.
