Join our busy team providing support to students with disabilities. Primarily you would be responsible for note taking for students and faithfully recording the content of a lecture and the tone of the speaker.

You may also be required to support students in the learning centres enabling them to access materials and equipment. You will need to be organised and efficient, sending formatted notes to the student and the Learning Support Worker Coordinator within a maximum of 3 days.

You will need to discuss with your student how they prefer to have their notes formatted and sent to them.

Successful candidates will have to attend mandatory training.

Knowledge, experience and skills

  • Excellent note taking skills: clear handwriting and excellent spelling & grammar
  • Flexibility of attitude and willingness to understand the requirements of students with disabilities; specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, medical conditions & mental health difficulties
  • The ability and skills to adapt content and layout of your notes to suit the students’ needs
  • A commitment to customer service, equal opportunities and to work within the social model of disability
  • The ability to demonstrate good listening skills
  • Experience of using email – sending attachments
  • Good knowledge of IT, particularly word processing and scanning

Other

  • The ability to communicate effectively and foster good relationships with staff, students and others as appropriate
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, behave in a professional manner with students and to maintain a patient understanding attitude
  • Willingness to be flexible regarding availability
  • Commitment to develop own skills within this field including attendance of training courses
