The Staff Awards are back again this year and are designed to recognise our most inspiring individuals and teams, and once again this year combines the Student-Led Teaching Awards (voted by students), Staff Awards (voted by staff) and the University Teaching Fellowships.

The awards will also include the Long Service Awards offering well-deserved recognition for our University staff who have completed 25 years' service and WOW! of the Year.

The five colleagues who have logged the most hours over a twelve month period as part of the Bank it campaign will receive a £50 cheque for the organisation or charity for which they volunteer through the Bank It Staff Volunteers of the Year award.

The awards will be held on Wednesday 24 May at Cheltenham Town Hall.

Student-led Teaching Awards categories:

Award for Most Inspiring Lecturer (Voted by students)

This award will be presented to a lecturer who possesses the following qualities:

  • Passionate about their subject
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of their subject
  • Provides engaging and innovative lectures
  • Offers career development advice
  • Makes additional resources available to enhance the student learning experience

Award for Most Engaging Module (Voted by students)

This award will be given for a module that possesses the following:

  • Well organised and structured
  • Superb quality of teaching
  • Engaging resources
  • Enables career related development
  • Has relevant, interesting, and challenging assessments

Award for the Best Academic Feedback (Voted by students)

This award will be presented to a lecturer who possesses the following qualities:

  • Provides effective and legible feedback
  • Offers several ways of giving feedback, such as face-to-face feedback or email comments
  • Always available for in-depth feedback upon request
  • Gives suggestions on how to improve future work

Award for the Most Innovative or Creative Teaching Style (voted by students)

This award will be presented to a lecturer who has:

  • Instilled a passion for the subject into the student
  • Creative methods of teaching
  • Inventive teaching styles
  • Engaged students to go above and beyond the subject

Award for Exceptional Support Beyond Teaching (Voted by students)

This award will be presented to an academic or non-academic who does the following:

  • Provides students with support outside of the module
  • Always available to give support
  • Approachable and understanding
  • Recognises the challenges faced by students

Staff members nominated in this award may be from the Helpzone, ICT, Accommodation, Chaplaincy, Mental health and Wellbeing, Disability and Dyslexia Support, Student Achievement Team, Careers, Placements, Financial advice, Library and Information services, the Students’ Union, or any other student support team.

Award for Best Practice in Promoting Equality and Diversity (Voted by Students)

This award will be presented to an academic who does the following:

  • Provides thought provoking and relevant content for equality and diversity
  • Recognises the importance for students to understand the importance of equality and diversity
  • Increasing awareness of issues to the student body
  • Provides students with innovative methods to practice equality and diversity
     

Staff Excellence Awards Categories:

Inspiring Colleague Award (as voted by staff)

A colleague who does a great job, earns respect, and makes a really positive difference

Outstanding Team Award (as voted by staff)

A team, who through their collective effort, have made a real impact within the University to improve how we work and what we can achieve

Partnership and Community Award (as voted by staff)

An individual or team who lead in forging relationships with external partners, charities or community organisations that have significantly benefitted the University’s development or profile

Research and Scholarship Award (as voted by staff)         

An individual or team who demonstrates excellence in research

And this year’s awards include a brand new category:

Diversity and Inclusion Award (as voted by staff)

The Diversity and Inclusion Award recognises the contribution and success of colleagues who have shown outstanding commitment to proactively developing an inclusive workplace, making the University a fairer and more welcoming place to work and study.
