Welcome to the
University of Gloucestershire Boardriders Team!
Skate | Snow | Surf
We're all about the boardsports at Boardriders.
Whether it 's catching the sun and surf on the coast of Portugal, skiing down the Alps or just cruising on your skateboard, we do it all.
At UoG Boardriders, we offer multiple trips, weekly social and training events, and the opportunity to compete in surfing, skiing and snowboarding championships against universities across the UK. Most importantly though, we're a group of likeminded, outgoing and adventurous people and we can help you make the most of your experience at the University of Gloucestershire!
Don’t worry if you’ve never picked up a board in your life! Whether you're interested in skateboarding, longboarding, snowboarding, skiing or surfing, our current members have a wide range of abilities and they'll all be happy to help get your started. We pride ourselves on encouraging beginners to learn the things they want to, so don't be shy, give it a try!
Alternatively, if you've got years of experience under your belt, you might be perfect for some of our many competitions throughout the academic year. Our first comp is in October for the BUCS Surf Championships at Fistral Beach in Newquay, so if you're a pro on a surf board, come on the trip and compete against over 70 other universities!
We currently have the BUDS - BUCS Snowsports Dryslope Championships in Edinburgh set in our sights for this season. This will be new to us but provides you guys with the perfect opportunity to show off those awesome ski and snowboard skills you have! Alternatively, we have a dry ski slope local to Gloucestershire and our club will be utilising it as much as possible this year. But if you've never strapped into skis or a snowboard, don't worry! A partnership between the university and Gloucester dry ski slope means you can get heavily discounted dry ski slope lessons.
For those more used to the snow, we also compete in the BUCS Indoor Ski/Snowboard Series. First, we'll compete against university across the Midlands. Then, those who qualify will compete against the best skiers and snowboarders in the country in the Indoor Finals!
Our final competition of the academic year is the BUCS Alpine Championship, where we'll head to the Alps on our annual ski trip, and anyone with the skill to compete in the wide range of skiing and snowboarding competitions can help boost the University of Gloucestershire up the rankings and compete against universities across the country. It's a brilliant way to meet likeminded people across the UK, and will be a great experience for anyone who wants to get involved!
We cater for all ablities here and with such a wide range of board sports on offer, it's hard to choose which one to do! Or you could choose all of them!
