The University of Gloucestershire is pleased to announce that Professor Lord Peter Hennessy will be giving the 2015 Chancellor's Lecture. The lecture will be given at the University's Park Campus in Cheltenham on Tuesday 2 June. The title of the lecture will be ‘Writing the history of one’s own times’. It will be introduced by the University's Chancellor, Baroness Rennie Fritchie.
Peter Hennessy is a respected historian, journalist and academic. He has worked for The Times, Financial Times and the Economist among others, and was a regular presenter of Analysis on BBC Radio 4. He co-founded the Institute of Contemporary British History in 1986. He was appointed Attlee Professor of Contemporary British History at Queen Mary, University of London. He was elevated to the House of Lords in 2010, taking the title of Baron Hennessy of Nympsfield in the county of Gloucestershire. He has authored several books, including "Never Again: Britain 1945-51", "The Secret State", "The Hidden Wiring: Unearthing the British Constitution", and the award-winning "Having It So Good: Britain in the Fifties".
