In an effort to encourage students and staff to think more about the environment at the University of Gloucestershire, all catering outlets will be offering 15p off each hot drink where a reusable cup is used from Tuesday 8th May.
In conjunction with the Students' Union, those that have an SU reusable cup can benefit from 20p off. The discount applies to all reusable cups on the basis they are clean and come with a lid.
Starbucks was introduced to the University through the caterer to ensure a well-known, high street brand is accessible. With this, the caterer is already offering this brand at a reduced cost to all consumers, while aiming to keep the same quality as you'll find in the main stores.
This initiative has been created in conjunction with the University as well as the Student's Union. The caterer recognises that students are keen to support the University in increasing its sustainability credentials and believe that the initiative has potentially great benefits on the environment by reducing our use of disposables throughout the catering operation at the University.
As of Tuesday, when a customer orders a hot drink, they will as a result be asked of their choice of cup.
In conjunction with this new initiative they will continue to promote the 'We Don't Do Rubbish' reward scheme which is available care of our FOODCLUB@UNI app within which users can gain electronic rewards stamps whenever they utilise a china mug or plate at coffee outlets instead of disposable alternatives.
They are also exploring the potential removal of non re-usable cups completely in the long term and are really keen as result to understand your thoughts in regards to this. With that in mind, please do help by completing this very quick survey about which cup you used when you last bought a hot drink from a catering outlet - uogfoodbars.typeform.com/to/bvtwOs.
