Gloucester Goes Retro high street footfall figures break 2018 records

Gloucester Goes Retro sponsored by Pro Global on August Bank Holiday Saturday broke footfall records in the city centre for 2018. The popular, award-winning event was a fitting finale to Gloucester’s successful Summer of Music, Arts and Culture (SoMAC). 

 

There was a 21.5% increase in numbers on the previous Saturday which meant an there were an additional 29,000 people in Gloucester City Centre, with many businesses stating they enjoyed their best day’s trading of the year so far. This meant that with a total of 69,000 people footfall was close to peak figures normally associated with Christmas shopping.

 

The event featured nearly 400 classic cars from different time periods of the 20th Century, and vintage music and dance performances. Many business owners got into the spirit of the event by dressing up in vintage clothing for the occasion.

Gloucester Goes Retro is sponsored by Pro Global, organised by Councillor Colin Organ of Gloucester City Council and Marketing Gloucester, and supported by Gloucester BID.

 

Councillor Colin Organ, creator and organiser of Gloucester Goes Retro, said:

“I am delighted that the latest Gloucester Goes Retro festival has attracted record crowds into our City, not just locally, but nationally and internationally as well. It is pleasing that the event has captured people’s imagination with nostalgia, living history themes with people playing such a huge part in encouraging our visitors to stay in our City for such long periods of time & appreciating all it has to offer. I understand the economic impact and the help to our charities has been substantial. Many visitors went home with a smile on their face which makes all of the hard work worthwhile!”
