Emily Andrews

Education Officer

As Education Officer, Emily leads the Students' Union in matters relating to Students' education.

Manifesto Points

Improve the now, to invest for the future.

My name is Emily Andrews, many people know me as Teapot and I am your SU Education Officer. I studied Criminology and Psychology at FCH campus, I was also Club Captain for Women’s Rugby.  I was elected as your Part-Time Education Officer 15-16 and I firmly believe my experience within the SU executive committee has been invaluable and will be extremely beneficial in regards to developing into the Full-Time Officer role. I have gained a very good understanding of processes such as the student feedback loop and NUS student union involvement.

My main aims for this year are:

Moodle improvements; Introduction of simple, streamlined guidelines to advance independent learning. From reviewing feedback from the education committee and subject reps, some courses are happier with their online experience than others. Focus on what the students need and when they need it.

Assessment Bunching Evaluation; Improvements in tutor communication and deadline timetabling to prevent unnecessary assignment bunching. Lack of even distributions means that some students have multiple deadlines due at the same time therefore hindering academic potential.

Transparency; Increase student awareness of assessment journey process and where your money goes, as a result increasing student understanding and satisfaction.

Feedback; Consistency of assessment feedback quality and improvements to how student’s feedback is utilised by tutors, therefore increasing student development.

A future-focus

There are many opportunities for you to participate throughout UOG however I want to raise awareness of the opportunities already available to you as well as increasing the number of these opportunities to help you get the best chance of success after university.

Course rep system

The university already has a course rep system but I want to improve the way feedback from the reps is collected and create more prominent roles for each course. This will allow you to have an active say in the way your course is run.

Helping you get what you want, to go where you want.
