I'm Alex, and I'm your elected Sports Officer at the University of Gloucestershire. I have been at the University for five years; studying both an undergraduate in Sports Science and masters in Strength & Conditioning. I love the sport at university and have been a member of #TeamGlos since day one, representing the rowing team. When I'm not in a boat, you can find me pitch side supporting our teams.
My job is to ensure you have the best opportunities to take part in sport & physical activity during your time studying with us. Here are my key points for the year;
Our sports teams are run by their respective committees. If we can train them sufficiently, our clubs can run more smoothly, only improving your experience. This is why I am going to work with them before term starts and offer a better training experience where we can cover issues such as mental health, inclusivity and marketing. When our teams are run well, our sport succeeds.
We have a range of talent at the University ranging from our photographers and media students to our sports journalists and radio presenters. When we can tap into this talent, not only can you develop your course specific skills, the sports community can thrive as a whole - it's a win-win situation! So even if you never want to pick up a ball or jump into the pool, you can be an active part of #TeamGlos. If you want to develop your talent please get in touch, it would be great to hear from you!
Sport and physical activity should be for everyone; whether you're the next Olympic gold medalist or just fancy a kick about with your mates. More opportunities should be created for students to be active. Let's develop and engage with more opportunities to play for fun, let's become members of our awesome sports teams and finally let set up new activities on every campus, for everyone.
My door is always open, so if you want to come in to ask anything or just want a general chat about sports, come and find me at Oxstalls SU.
