Better Coverage of sport at UoG
The success of the sports teams in ‘Teamglos’ is undeniable. There is so much more we can do to highlight this and celebrate it. We can do this internally but also by broadcasting our success and making UoG a go-to university for elite sport. I will work with the media school to start up a ‘GlosTV’. This will broadcast our success to a wider audience furthering the strength of ‘Teamglos’.
More Awareness of Mental Health in Sport
Dealing with injuries and trying to perform at an elite level can be incredibly taxing and comes with many issues. One of these issues that are increasingly present, is mental health. Whether these issues are sports based, academic or life away from university, it can all take a serious toll on your mental health. I will work with the welfare officer and other support services within the university to make sure that all clubs have a clear pathway to help team members struggling with both physical and mental health issues.
Make sport accessible for all
Whether it be through timetabling issues, travel or money some people find they cannot access university sport. I plan to combat the issue of lectures still being timetabled after 1pm on a Wednesday, despite university policy, and improve access to recreational sport for those who don’t wish to play competitively.
